Trending Artiste in Nigeria

How to Become a Trending Artiste in Nigeria With or Without a Record Deal

Afrobeats is a genre of trends and engagements, the more trendy an artiste is, the more relevant and successful he or she is likely going to be [within a particular period of time].

Let’s leave longevity and evergreen, you must trend if you must succeed and subsequently record your existence in the annals of history.

How to Become a Trending Artiste

Do not be deceived, the Gen-Z era has absolutely nothing to do with longevity and quality, all that matter to them are the trends, the traffic, the impression and artiste gets, and to get trendy, you must do or be the following.

To trend as an artiste in Nigeria, try the following:

1. Be Controversial

Nobody would tell you this, not even your record label or manager but the truth is, controversy whether online or offline is the real deal.

As an artiste who wants to trend, you must be psychotic; your madness must be felt on the social media and in real life.

Get yourself involved in beefs; diss established artistes in your songs, attack your contemporaries, be on the news not only for the right thing, be a Baddo.

Steal people songs if need be. Call out the government and public figures. Engage brands for imaginary unpaid royalties, etc.

Examples of artistes who manipulated controversies to their own advantages are Terry and his beef with Mallam Spicey, AY.Com, Blue Moon Entertainment; Eedris and the federal government.

Davido and Burna Boy beef; Wizkid and Davido’s beef; Timaya and his clash with Empress Njamah; aqbonez with his beef against MI and Khaligraph Jones.

Oladips and his death saga; Odumodublvck and his recalcitrant lifestyle; 2baba and his promiscuous sexual behavior.

Ruggedman and his beefs with Modenine, Kennis Music, Eedris, Tony Tetula, Olu Maintain and Eddy Remedy.

Most common is Portable and I don’t need to tell you of his endless madness, you all know the stories and how those clout-chasing antics have been helping him.

Portable has just one big song, but he is two-times popular than Buju, Crayon, Boy Spice who have been pulling remarkable projects.

Be Odd

Your songs must be stylistically different from what others are doing.

Bro, the market is highly competitive; it is now not liken to a jungle where the big and powerful animals take everything leaving the smaller species to suffer incessant discomforts.

The biggest Hip-Hop artiste in Nigeria last year was merely a rookie; I’m talking about Odumodublvck. Big Kala from nowhere won the best rap song in 13th Headies with his hit song “Declan Rice”. Lyrically, the single was a mid, but filled with stylistic oddity.

Asake and Seyi Vibes are not doing the regular Afrobeats of Wizkid and OBO. They came odd, weird and strange, and yes, they got it right.

Naira Marley popularized the singing-talking pattern and now Asake, Shallipopi, Seyi Vibes, Muyeez, Zerrydl, and co have jumped on it without hesitation.

The singing-talking of Asake and co is becoming one of the bestselling patterns of Afrobeats.

3. Sorround Yourself With a Network of Radical Media Influencers

You can’t do it alone and get the full attention of the public if your PR is not strong.

Having a wide fanbase is cool, but having influencers who can send out missiles to the streets and take bullets for you is the coolest.

I will not mention artistes and their respective influencers, but if you want to know, kindly ask Google why Tunde Ednut is always seen attacking everyone who attacks Davido.

If you can’t an influencer for yourself, turn one immediately. Do you see Speed Darlington and Blaqbonez? Those guys have gathered a lot of attentions for themselves through the use of social media.

Speedy does not need the services of an influencer, he is an influence. Lol. Don’t ask me how he has been doing it, if you need the tactics, Hqwords is open for business, kindly contact us.

What is your opinion on this discourse? Let’s talk about it on the comment section.
